Finishing work in the roof implies a number of mandatory steps. Including the hearing of the roof. One of the key elements is sophisticated. By themselves, they represent a certain pie of the roofing system and protect the basis of the finishing material from the negative impact of external factors. About how to install them with your own hands, you will learn from this article.
Problem of choice
The key task is to protect the roof from the effects of external stimuli and give a surface one hundred percent finished look. Sofa as material can be made of PVC, aluminum, metal or copper. Methods of installation at the same time do not differ. But the weight of the material in some cases may complicate the procedure because of which you will need assistance in the installation.
- Aluminum. One of the most popular species in the market. Aluminum is very light and practically not subject to corrosion. At the same time, it also does not burn, does not fade, perfectly withstands the temperature differences.
- Metal. Pretty inexpensive and easy to install. Nevertheless, have more weight than aluminum. But due to the fact that they are made of galvanized steel, they are more durable and wear-resistant.
- Copper. The main advantage is a huge period of operation - over 150 years. They do not require special maintenance and at the same time unresponsible to the environment. Like previous two options, they are completely environmentally friendly.
- Vinyl. This is one of the most inexpensive species, as the main material - PVC. They are very light and comfortable in the installation. At the same time, if they are correctly installed, they will always be in the shade and will not fade over time. This is the only appearance that is not exposed to fungus and mold. In addition, during operation they do not have to repaint. PVC is a solid material that is also weakly exposed to high and low temperatures. They do not lose their properties and structures at temperature indicators from -50 to +60 degrees, that is, are the most versatile.
Photos of Sofita are presented below, you can see the most used molding method.
Prices of soffits for the roof are significantly different depending on the selected material. But it is PVC that is the most advantageous option, the price / quality ratio is much better than that of the analogues.
Metal Sofites are more durable and manufactured in different colors: RR or RAL. The most sought-after markets are aluminum. They are strong enough and provide ample opportunities to choose color and texture. For example, for a wooden roof you can buy sofa with a tree texture that will harmoniously merge with a common house design.
Given that they are a panel of aluminum, plastic or copper, they can easily be attached to any surface. But most often they are fixed directly to the box at home under the edge of the roof, which gives it a more pleasant aesthetic appearance. Most often, the castle compound is used, which provides higher durability and ease of installation, even for beginners in construction and roofing works.
In fact, Sofita is the same siding or lining. Translated from the Italian "Sofit" means "ceiling". However, the translation does not quite correspond to reality. Most of them have a perforated structure. Due to this, the sofa is passed air.
How to install sofit
For proper installation and installation, it is necessary to act clearly according to plan:
- Installing the crate.
Regardless of which type of sophods you will use, the installation of sofits should occur on a pre-prepared pre-crate. It can be made from a wooden bar with dimensions of 4x5 cm, or from galvanized profiles. The second option is usually practical thanks to the convenience of work and simplicity of installation. If you give preference to wooden slats, then pay attention to them to be smooth and dry. They will not be deformed during operation. It is also important to remember that the tree may be exposed to strong moisture. It is also minus wooden crate. The rails themselves must be poning along the wall at the edge of the eaves. The step between them should be from 30 to 40 centimeters. The main thing at this stage is to ensure that the rails or profiles be completely parallel to the wall along which it is placed.
If your cornice has a width of over 60 cm, you will have to use additional rails that will be installed between the wall and the main rails. You do not stand for strength to connect them. This will not give a special effect, but you will spend a lot of time.
Note. Installation of any soffits is recommended at a temperature not lower than 15 degrees. Before this we advise you to end them out to stabilize the temperature. The degree of their compression due to temperature differences can be up to a centimeter, which creates additional difficulties in the installation work.
- Installing a J-TRIM plank and panels.
When the doom is ready, it is necessary to mount the J-TRIM planks. They are attached directly to the slats and also parallel to the wall of the building. This is fixed directly at the wall, and the second is on the edge. The type of installation at the same time may depend on your personal preferences and flavors. They can easily install in parallel land or with the right angle. Installing the J-TRIM plan allows you to adjust the slope without any problems, but you need to monitor the panels are at one angle.
- Direct installation of sofits.
Initially, using a ruler or roulette measure the distance between J-TRIM-Platters. From the resulting distance, it is necessary to take 5-6 mm to have a margin in case of expansion of material due to temperature or humidity. If all the planks are installed in parallel, you can safely cut the sofa of the desired length in the required quantity. If they are installed at an angle, you will have to make measurements between each of each and cut sofa individually. This partially complicates and slows down the installation process. Prepared Sofit needs to be a little bend and install in the grooves J-TRIM-strips so that they go perpendicular to the wall of the building. All items should be connected to the lock and install according to such a scheme. Try not to take tension to be free. After that, the design must be fixed on the crate. Between points of attachment, a step should be about 30 centimeters.
- Installation of soffits at the corners of the building.
Here the process will be more complex and time consuming. However, there are several simple methods that allow everything to do quickly and efficiently: straight and diagonal. Visually, you can imagine the square, which is located on the corner. The planks are converged perpendicular to each other. You can cut the angles diagonally, but in this case you have to strictly observe the angle. It is much easier to simply shorten one of the sophists so that he rests on the line to another. It looks not so beautiful, but will save you from unnecessary trouble. Especially since the soffits themselves are quite invisible. But in any case, it will have to install additional grooves J-TRIM-slats, which will come into contact with each other by the rear walls. When installing the planks, cut the sofit so that the grooves running on the panels were shaked together. Thus, they will create a continuous line.
- Features of fasteners of sofits.
For fastening, you can only be used fastened from non-ferrous metals - they are not so much corrosion and more durable. Alternatively, you can use those on which there is a special protective coating. The diameter of the leg must be at least 0.3 cm, and the hat is 0.8 cm. When you work a screwdriver or a drill, do not drive the fasteners too tight. You must leave some space for expansion. The clearance should be about one millimeter. Please note that the fasteners themselves can be driven only into specially prepared holes, so as not to damage the sofit and the design of the roof. On average, the distance between them is up to forty centimeters. It is not recommended to make a step wider because the fasteners can simply not withstand weights. Watch that fasteners always logged at right angles, otherwise the entire design can be deformed and losing an attractive appearance.
- Cutting panels.
At this stage, it is necessary to use the means of protection and adhere to safety regulations. For cutting, it is best to use a circular saw. It should be brought to the material to the cutting tooth in the opposite direction of rotation. Thus, cutting will occur softer, and you avoid slipping the tool in the process. If you use scissors, you only need to cut the material for two thirds of the blade. When working with a knife, rush deep line and bend the material until it breaks. In any case, the sofita needs to start cutting from the fastener.
- Transportation and storage.
If you transport or fold sofa, they must be on a flat and flat surface. Do not allow the soffits to touch the floor. It is better to initially put the lining or platform under them, so that the water does not register them and the dirt did not fall. If the sofets add up on the street, the packaging needs to be opened to prevent the formation of condensate.
Additional advice
- Keep symmetry. Sofa for the roof should be installed at one angle and with the same distance from the walls.
- The cost is important. The most expensive - copper soffits. They are some of the most durable. The cheapest is vinyl. Their cost is currently varied within 300 rubles per square meter.
- It is safer to take the material from well-known manufacturers and verified vendors.
- Remains of sofit after mounting do not dispose. Perhaps they will need for subsequent repair work.
- In the process of installing at some stages, you will most likely need someone's help. Therefore, better ask someone to work with you so that there is no downtime in work.
- Do not work in rainy weather. Sofits from this can expand, and after drying it hard to shrink, relaxing the mount.
