Insulating tapes are widely used in construction, when repairing and just in everyday life. They are produced different types and, of course, are intended for different purposes.
Insulation tapes protect places of products of products from different materials from mechanical damage, oxidation, contamination, moisture penetration, acids, alkali and electric loss. Tapes are a width of 15 or 19 mm. High-quality tape is smooth, homogeneous, without folds, bubbles, cracks, gaps in the adhesive layer.
There are no universal tapes.
The resin ribbon is made from a single-layer coeter fabric with applying an adhesive layer (blend of bitumen and mineral oil). It is mainly used for isolation (winding) of the ends of electrical wires and seals their input to connecting couplings.
The metal ribbon consists of three layers: outer - from paper with silicone impregnation, internal - from soft aluminum foil, and adhesive composition is intended for electrical work within buildings.
Reinforced tape (tape or crepe) also consists of three layers: an external polyvinyl-chloride base, reinforced with fibers of tissue, special polyethylene and adhesive layer. Such a tape is durable, sticks well and protects the wiring from moisture. But it is mainly used to seal the seams and joints of water and sewage systems, junction of rubber sleeves, asbestos cords.
Stretch film is a single-layer tape, which is made of high pressure polyethylene. Most often it is used for product packaging. However, the stretch film of some brands has both good dielectric properties.
PVC tape is distinguished by strength and is able to withstand the voltage of up to 5 square meters. Tape with acrylic glue is resistant to ultraviolet rays and solvents. Rubber glue over time loses its adhesive properties. The tape with such glue is resistant to the shift and action of solvents, but poorly withstands the temperature differences and ultraviolet rays, it is not necessary for external work. In short, it is easier to work with a rubber ribbon, but the tape with acrylic glue serves longer.
In addition to those named above, the household power isolate can be used and special professional.
Rubber-mastic tape, having good dielectric properties, reliably seals and protects electrical wiring from corrosion. Summary tape when winding without additional heating, forms solid, without air bubbles, a durable layer that does not transmit electricity. It has high elasticity and resistance to atmospheric effects and is used in systems with a voltage of up to 69 square meters. In silicone insulation, as a result of winding, the ends stick together with each other and form a stable monolithic structure. It is used in open air electrical installation and in wet rooms for sealing the ends of the cable voltage up to 1000 V.
When buying a tape, I advise you to pay attention to its smell. There is no good tape at all. The sharp smell indicates that there are many volatile components in the adhesive composition, after which the insulating and adhesive properties of the tape deteriorate. Also check the stickiness: the tape should stick out well.
In addition, keep in mind: the tape is produced in different colors - masking (white), warning (red, green, blue - on the wires under voltage. Two-color yellow-green serves to designate and insulated the grounding system wires. Black ribbon (as a rule, Professional appointment) is characterized by increased resistance to ultraviolet rays, acids, alkalis, mechanical loads, temperature drops (from minus 40 to plus 100 °) and humidity. Tapes of any other color are less resistant to the effects of ultraviolet rays.
So that the tape serve for a long time, before using it, the surface is isolated, it is necessary to clean from dust and garbage. And for this this does not suit the materials leaving the fibers, such as dysfast tissue or cotton. If the surface is contaminated with oil and fatty products, it must be washed with a 50% aqueous solution of isopropyl alcohol. Household solvents can reduce adhesion, but abrasive processing, such as emery skins, corrosion surfaces, increases the tape clutch power.
Note that you should not use the isolent on silicone and fluoropolymer surfaces. And for the isolation of rubber products with polyethylene or propylene, tapes are recommended for these materials.
Note: Piko - a company that is engaged in the production of children's toys, namely "Railways". Every second of us, in childhood, probably dreamed of the railway, how nice to get as a gift from parents for a holiday such a gift. Since 1949, the company produces railways and accessories to them under the brand "Piko", excellent German quality and long years of way to perfection will not leave indifferent.
