Lobelia is a perennial plant. It grows in the form of a shrub or semi-stabiliar. Belongs to the family of bells. These flowers grow in almost all parts of the world, but most of them grow in subtropics. To date, there are about 270 species of this plant. Some of them are used as raw materials for the production of drugs that are effective in lung diseases. Of all species, only about 20 varieties are culturally grown. Growing this culture and care for it does not require much time. Therefore, the cultivation of these beautiful plants die for everyone.
How to grow a label from seeds
Landing Lobelia Seeds is the main way to grow this plant. Under normal conditions, the seeds quickly spare enough, and the first flowers can already be seen after a little over a week. The process of planting seeds is usually beginning in February, when a drainage layer is laid into a container with cells with a depth of 45 cm, and in the top of the ground. The soil should be mixed with river sand and coconut fiber so that it become more loose. When the ground will be laid in the cassette, it must be properly moistened.
Before sowing seeds, you need to wait until the soil falls. They are usually not injected, but simply put on the surface and pour sand to protect the moisture from evaporation from the soil. If the seeds are buried, then they may simply not climb. After sowing seedlings, the container is covered with a film or glass, and then put in place where a sufficient amount of scattered light is present.
Shoots of this plant are not afraid of too wet soil. On the contrary, it can be destroyed dry and too warm air and solid soil. Because of this, sprouts become thin and dying. For this reason, it is impossible to leave a container without a film, especially if the room temperature is above 22 degrees. In addition, it is important to water the plants in time. By the way, it is possible to water quite cool water, it will not destroy the gatherings.
The first month shoots will grow sufficiently slowly, but it is only temporary. After some period, the growth will noticeably accelerate. When seedlings rise to 30-45 mm, they should be priced 3-4 pieces into a suitable capacity, for example, into disposable paper cups. When the sprouts achieved 60-70 mm, it is necessary to remove the tip of the escape to stimulate branching.
Lobelia bloom usually begins when it is still in seedlings. In the second half of May, seedlings are usually already planted into the ground. The selected plot should be sufficiently sunny. The soil should be loose loamy or spay, i.e. Not very fertile. In the manufacture of soil under the landing should not make too many nitrogen fertilizers. Otherwise, the flowers can not be seen. Although the greens will work out beautiful. 3-4 lobelia sprouts are planted into each yam. At the same time, 100-150 mm should be between the wells. Now you know how to grow label seeds.
Seeds are not the only way to grow lobelia. There is a way to make this plant with perennial. To do this, the seedling rolls out along with the root and is transferred to the winter to the unheated greenhouse or home. When spring comes, overwhelming plants are broken into several cuttings and sear in different tanks so that they can be rooted. As soon as this happens, the seedlings can be planted in the soil. To a vegetative way, it is often resorted to situations when it is necessary to preserve important varieties for future generations of plants, which is not always possible when seeding seeds.
Growing without picking
If you do not want to "mess around" with a seedler, then you can try the following method for growing. In about the middle of the spring, you need to fill the basket of fertile land where the grain seeds are sowed. After that, cover the pot of the film and put on the windowsill. When it becomes warmer, it can be transferred to the garden. With this cultivation, the blossoms of Lobelia usually begins later than usual. But this method is less labor-intensive than the seedling landing and seeding.
Growing in peat containers
This is quite expensive and convenient method of growing lobelia. But to the surface of the seed in this case, it is advisable to transfer with a wet toothpick. To germinate the seedlings, the tongue of the toothpick seeds should be distributed in different places on the peat tablet. Next, everything is done as usual. The differences will be only in watering - it is more convenient to do it through the pallet. Watering should be abundant. It is necessary to ensure that there is too much water on the pallet. When growing a label in peat pills, a dive is not always required. If the plants are planted enough, then in such a state they can wait for disembarking into open ground.
Care rules
Immediately it is worth noting that it is easy to care for Lobelia. The most important thing for it is watering. After all, the soil must be constantly moistage, especially when it is hot. Separately, it is worth noting the ampel lobelia that you need to water twice a day. In addition, when careing for culture, it is impossible to be forgotten at the end of the first blooming trimming. At the same time, the stalks are cut at an altitude of 45 mm from the soil, after which the rapid growth of new shoots begins. In addition, the second bloom is usually occurring, which is often more abundant than the first. Two or three times over the summer, complex mineral fertilizers are made.
For this plant during the growing season is the temperature of the temperature regime. While the seeds germinate, there should be about +21 degrees in the room, and when sprouts appear, then the temperature is recommended to reduce about 6 degrees. It is not necessary to decrease at all. It is enough to attribute the seedlings in a cooler place, it may be for example, the windowsill. The first shoots can be expected already a week after sowing. During this period, it is especially important to maintain soil moisture. In addition, seedlings need to be tired, but from glass and films to remove moisture accumulation. After the appearance of the sprouts, the film or glass should be removed gradually. It can be completely removed only when the sprouts are reached 10 mm.
If Lobelia is planting in February, it should be borne in mind that the plant most likely will miss the light due to a short light day. Therefore, you will need to organize additional backlight. Without her, seedlings will grow weak. At the beginning of the spring and later the duration of the daylight should already be enough. Therefore, additional backlight is no longer needed.
As for watering, the young seedlings sometimes have problems with him. Lobelia seedlings are quite thin and gentle, which is why watering can "fall" to the ground and, most likely, do not rise again. As an option, you can raise them manually, but still it is more reliable at all to make moisture from the seedlings during irrigation. This, among other things, will save the sprouts from the disease with a black leg. Above, we said that sow lobelia is best not solid carpet, but bushes. It should facilitate pickup and watering.
There is a deepening between bushes and with the help of a syringe, water is poured into these holes. The moisture is absorbed, and the land will evenly moisturize. At the same time, fragile sprouts remain dry and do not fall. Alternatively, you can gradually pour water from the syringe on the walls of the porridge. But this option is suitable if the container is small. Otherwise, water can simply do not reach the roots of the plant. Water it is necessary for the first few weeks. During this period, the plants are fixed and it will be possible to water the usual way.
Picking is important in leaving the lobelia. Moreover, dive not one plant, but immediately several. This is usually done with a small blade, which the bustice is raised and transplanted into the cup. If seedling is planted with a carpet, then part of the soil should be separated together with seedlings and transplant them in the container of larger size. When the plants are completed with the picking, it should be poured and to withstand in the shadows for several days, after which it is again set on the lit place.
When seedlings grow up for several centimeters, it is best to make a pitch. To simplify this procedure, you can cut the top from all seedlings with scissors. This should improve the branchiness of the plant and will have a positive effect on the root system. It is especially useful to do when a small number of roots grow in a cup with seedle. If it takes a timely pitch, then even from a conventional seedlings can grow a big and lush bush. This should be considered.
Lobelia Seeds: how to collect
After the end of the flowering of Lobelia, remnants can be removed and seed when necessary. This work can be performed in spring, but then you need to take into account that this plant is able to multiply by self-sowing, i.e. Proposed to inorganized reproduction. Because of which culture can be blooming later than seedlings landed in spring. Seeds are better to collect and sow according to recommendations. They are assembled as follows: the bush is cut off, then it should be shaking it (it is better to do it over a newspaper) and what falls from it will be sieved through a sieve, after which the decessed is placed in match boxes. This boxes are better to sign so that it can then be easily found among other similar matches.
In general, Lobelia has enough small boxes. Because of what they would not be able to grab even their fingers. At the same time, the seeds are such tiny, that they can only consider them in a heap. Despite this, they are usually good enough. Therefore, the seeds are better to collect themselves. Sometimes they do the following: put the pot in the pot, which is then put on paper, and when the seeds fall, they are easily assembled with this paper. With lobelia growing in a greenhouse, you can collect seeds with another method. They are cut off by shoots, on which the seed boxes managed to ship, after which they are connected to a bundle several shoots, and a paper bag is put on it, after which it is suspended in a warm dry place. When the seeds ripen, they turn out to be in the package.
Lobelia varieties
There are several varieties of lobelia, which can be divided into two groups - these are bush and ampel. To the bush, in particular, belong:
- Grade "Crystal Palace". These plants are bushes with a height of 100-150 mm. This variety has green leaves with a purple tint.
- This group still includes grade Kaiser Wilhelm. The lobels of this species are small plants, 12 cm high with light green leaves. Their flowers are bright blue.
- From the bushs, it is also worth noting the Cambridge Blue variety, whose bushes grow up to 16 cm and bloom in colorless blue colors.
- Another bush grade of Lobelia is considered a "white lady", which can grow up to 100 mm in height. The leaflets in this culture are light green, and the flowers are pure white painting.
From ampel varieties of culture, you can note the "sapphire" and "blooming cascade". The first is a bushes up to 37 cm high. They are very branched, bloom in blue colors. The second view is plants with flowers of different color. Their shoots can reach 55 cm.
