How to use pills for seedlings

The country season is getting closer, and most of the gardeners begin to actively prepare for it long before the onset of warm days. There are many ways to grow seedlings, but there are among them the most advanced, which were particularly popular among dacities. In this article we will describe in detail how tablets are used for seedlings, and what are their advantages.

What are the basic advantages of tablets?

Peat pills for seedlings are modern development for both amateur and professional gardening. With their help, you can germinate seeds, get seedlings, root leaves or shine.

The tablet is a compressed washer from the upper peat, which adds various growth stimulants and useful trace elements. Outside the cylinder is a thin mesh sheath. In a dry condition, the pill height is about 3 cm, and its diameter ranges from 2.5 to 7 cm. At the top there is a small recess for the seed. It is only worth pouring a tablet with warm water, as it grows in a height of five to seven times, but due to the meshe, retains its diameter, turning into a comfortable cup with a nutrient mixture.

For the production of pressed blanks, peat or coconut fiber are used. Both of these material are identical in their qualities, and therefore there is no difference, you use coconut pills for seedling or peat. All of them perfectly hold moisture and never give your seeds to get sick, for example, a fungus or "black leg", which often happens if you use poor-quality ground. The fact is that during the drying of the peat substrate there is also its sterilization.

Particularly high-quality tablets are produced from a valuable sphagnum peat and with different levels of acidity, since it is needed by each particular culture.

In addition, tablets contain all the necessary minerals that need a young sprout for the period of its formation. The special shell is processed by a fungicidal composition and protects the sprout from damage to the fungus, but at the same time, after planting the plant into the soil, it is quickly decomposed, without preventing the growing root system.

Obvious advantages of such tablets:

• the most important thing is to get rid of the need to mess around with earth, fertilizers and cups in an apartment. Yes, and not everyone can carry heavy bags with soil. For comparison: a thousand tablets weigh 7.5 kg, while the Earth for the same number of pots would take 200 kg. The process of sowing turns out of dirty work in pleasure;
• peat pills will noticeably save space compared to conventional methods for planting seeds;
• they are not better suitable for sitting down small or expensive seeds, since the germination in this case is much higher;
• since peat is crumbling, it does not injure the gentle root system of some plants;
• tablets do not absorb excess moisture, and therefore, it is easier to care for seedlings: the soil moisture is easy to control;
• when using peat washers, there is no need for additional feeding;
• the plant is immersed in the soil along with a tablet and mesh, which guarantees the safety of the roots;
• the reserve of nutrients in the peat is enough with an excess. Plants in tablets are developing much faster, grow strong, with elastic stems, patients with sprouts among them are practically not observed;
• they are ideal for flowers with very small and gentle shoots, such as Petunia, Lobelia. And also indispensable if the plants do not tolerate the pickup (poppies, gypsophila, esthemal).

How to use pills for seedlings?

Pre-tablets are prepared, and then proceed to planting seeds:

1. Select the pallet of the size you need, or the capillary mat, and place the workpiece in it, the recess to the top.
2. In each of the tablets, pour 2-2.5 tablespoons with warm boiled water. They will begin to increase in size right in their eyes.
3. Wait about 15 minutes, until the compressed peat will finally fade, and then drain all the extra liquid from the pallet.
4. In each deepening, put one or two seeds you need culture.
5. Carefully cover the seeds with a thin layer (1-2 mm) of the coconut or peat composition, taken from the same tablet, with the exception of those that germinate in the open form.
6. Cover the pallet with a transparent film so that the effect of the greenhouse is turned out and place it in a warm bright place. You can use a transparent box from under the cake, but the most convenient to use special plastic microparts with ducts for tablets.
7. Do not forget periodically, at least once a day, to air the plants, and after the appearance of germs and remove the cover at all.

Features of growing seedlings in peat tablets

As a rule, expensive seeds are lowered one in each hole, and more simple - two or three. Subsequently, the sprouts thin, leaving one, the strongest seedling in each "cup".

The depth on which seeds are lowered should be equal to the length of the seed multiplied by two. If the cuttings are rooted, they are immersed by 1-3 cm, after processing the stimulant of the root formation.

After the first seedlings appeared, watering is produced on the bottom of the container, since moisture getting into leaves and stems can lead to diseases of plants. The necessary moisture is perfectly drawn by the capillaries of peat tablets and enters the root system. It is important to always control the state of the soil: it should not be rehabilted or rehabited, but at the same time, you need to give it a little "breathing" by air in the interval between irrigation. Oxygen has a beneficial effect on the development of plant roots. You can add different feeding to water to water, starting only from the second week after the first leaflets appear. Prior to this, the plant is quite sufficient to those minerals that were in the tablet.

Although the stock of moisture in peat cylinders is small, water from them evaporates not so fast. Sometimes it may be mistaken to appear that you should add a little. However, remember, it is necessary to moisten the seedlings with special calculations: if the tablet is too wet, the seedling does not have enough air, and it will bring up too slowly, and a very small plant can easily weaken.

The seedlings are best spaced from the Western or Eastern window: there may be too little light on the north, and the rays of the southern will be too strong for the rapid sprout.

Picking of seedlings in a larger pot is not required: peat in its organic shell especially decomposes, and therefore when transplanting simply immerse your cup into a larger capacity, spread the soil and gently compact it. This is another important dignity of peat pills, as the seedlings that have not broken the root system, have great chances of survival.

2. Acidity. As already mentioned, the pressed peat is produced with different levels of soil acidity, both sour and neutral. For growing most colors and vegetables, acidity is needed close to 5.5. The incorrectly chosen balance may cause the death of seeds, so you always carefully read on the packaging, which acidity in this peat, and certainly do not take off the unpacked pills.
3. The diameter of respectively grown culture. That is, for smaller plants, you need a smaller tablet, and vice versa. Properly selected tablet diameter for large seedlings will save you from the need for a transplant to the container as they are heightened. The most popular is the diameter of 4 cm, which is also suitable for growing seedlings, and for shilling. For very small seeds, it is better to use tablets of 2-3 cm, and for such crops like eggplants, tomatoes, peppers - choose a diameter of 7 cm.
4. The presence of a paper or mesh shell. In addition to additional antifungal protection, it keeps the shape of a peat container. There are pills, whose shell is missing, and they are cheaper, but during wets they turn into a pile of wet peat.

Carefully calculate the seeding time so that seedlings have seen by the time of its landing. This is a very difficult task with an individual solution, which can be found only with experience.

Tablets do not have the shelf life if they were stored correctly, that is, in a dry place.

Perhaps the only drawback of peat pills is their price. One thing costs about 5 rubles, and if you grow seedlings on a large scale, then, of course, this method will be economically unprofitable. But with small volumes in the conditions of a regular apartment, peat pills are a solution to many problems.
